Portrait Commission Procedure

The first meeting and/ or orientation discussion the pose and clothing are chosen, such as either a standing or sitting pose, and what clothing you are most recognised in.  The next step is to chose either being painted from life or schedule a photo session and have the portrait painted from the photographs chosen from the shoot session.  Also the location of the photo shoot or painting from life must be chosen, either at the clients home, my studio or at another (outside) location.

The dimensions of the painting are determined by the size of the person to be painted, his / her posture and the space that is available to display the portrait.

  I prefer to create life-size paintings or just slightly under life size, but if there's not enough space available, the portrait can be reduced to at least 75% of the actual life-size.

Once all the options are chosen the painting will begin, first a small mock-up to show the basic pose in color and composition to be approved by the client.  Painting time for a life size 3/4 pose will take about two to three months, depending on my schedule. If a Portrait must be painted smaller then the 75%,  pricing is the same as for a life size portrait no matter what size.

You are paying for the pose of the portrait and price is not adjusted as to the size.  Example if you would like a portrait showing the subject seated with hands and just below the waist,  that is a 3/4 size portrait.  No mater if you want it painted to be life size or the canvas to be just 26" by 18",  the price is the same as if you ordered a life size such as 40" x 32".

I paint both on Linen Canvas and Masonite Wood Panel, Clients choice.  Also all my portraits are painted in the normal style I paint in,  I do not copy other styles,  you would then need to look fo another artist if my style does not suit you. 

Portrait Prices

The standard price for a full length portrait is: 

$4500.00.                                                                  

3/4 Portrait is: 

$3800.00
                    

Head and Shoulders with hands is: 

$1200.00          

Head and Shoulders without hands is:

$750.00

If travel is required, the client must arrange for travel and Hotel accomodations.

All prices are irrespective of the size of the portraits, and sales tax is not included.
